On Saturday our U11 team welcomed Dungannon to Newry in their quarter final of the NIBFA Cup. The game kicked off and Dylan Quinn caught the opposition defence cold as he opened the scoring within 20 seconds. The tempo of the game was very high and the young Stars had several chances to extend their lead but some outstanding goalkeeping... kept Dungannon in the game. The wasted chances came back to haunt them as Dungannon drew level with their first attack of the game after 16 minutes.

The young Windmill boys rolled their sleeves up and continued to work hard. Cheered on by a large crowd Ethan McAleenan restored their lead in the 21st minute with an excellent finish. The Stars were well in control of the game but continued to squander chances. The first half finished 2V1.

Dungannon started the second half much better and hit the crossbar and the post before they eventually equalised 5 mins after the retstart. The Dungannon keeper continued his excellent performance keeping the young Windmill attackers at bay with some great stops.

Dungannon scored their 3rd goal following some great work from their right winger who crossed to the back post where the ball found its way over the line putting Dungannon 2v3 ahead with 10 minutes to go.

This young Windmill team has shown great character and resolve in several of their games this year and Saturday was another occasion. They continued to build pressure on the Dungannon defence and with 3 minutes remaining Joe Mc Aloon fired home the equaliser. It was a nail biting final finish to the match but it finished with no more goals and so it was penalties to decide the winners.

Adam Garvey and Jamie Doran calmly put their penalties away and because of some outstanding saves from Windmill shot stopper Aaron Murdock the game was won.

The boys now play Linfield in the semi-final. This is the first time a youth team from the club has progressed to the last 4 of the Irish Cup and everyone at the club is incredibly proud of their achievement. Well done players and coaches.

The tie will be played at a neutral ground and a further update with KO details will be posted on this page in the coming days.
